Extended day/year round:Allows families access and support during typical working hours, and provides plenty of time for students to complete work, play throughout the day, and eradicates access/academic/opportunity disparities. The operating structure is similar to an athletic club/co-working space:
● access can be in person or remote;
● enroll in sessions in person or remote as desired; and,
● sign up for individual coaching to achieve individual mastery.
Micro-environment, field academies, in under-utilized opportunity spaces: GFA currently operates in a recreational facility and a co-working production studio. Each new cohort of approximately 25-30 students and their families provides us with the opportunity to expand into new spaces in designated community/public spaces, emphasizing field days to expose and connect students to their communities, socialization and current events (ie. Miami Book Fair, Art Basel, theater performances, rotating museum exhibits, guest speakers).
Each student and their families have a unique learning/goal plan, which is self-paced and supported by staff and their team of coaches, and area experts that create their learning community . The plans are currently being managed analog, but are being migrating to the Creator+ developed by the Learning One to One Foundation. Student portfolios, a digital and analog file of student’s past work and process work, are currently being managed via
SeeSaw. Due to CoVid 19, group courses, and one of one tutoring are currently being conducted via Zoom, and Caribu (literacy).
Mixed-aged students (currently 5-13 years old) and their families provide peer education/experiences and support. Families, if available, are encouraged to participate and/or co-work in the same space as their children. In all cases, children and parents are given the tools, training, access to real-time progress and activities allowing parents to be true co-educators.
A “Network” of schools or facilities traditionally means the “owner/operator” is connected. In this model, students/families are able to access the entire network, anytime, anywhere. Each workshop and field opportunity is a part of a larger network that students can access to achieve their
educational benchmarks and achieve mastery relevant to their individualized learning plan. In recent years, co-working spaces have established networks that offer members services in any location. We do the same. If one location is offering programs or courses more aligned to your learning plan then you are able to access those offerings seamlessly. Traveling? No problem, you may access the program remotely, or find a local center. Part time options are also available for families who are doing partial homeschooling.
